Review: This book wasn’t what I was expecting. the reviews implied that it might be like paper princess by Erin watt, which I LOVED. And it was similar in a lot of ways. But this is about cousins. And I kind of figured they’d find they weren’t related because says there’s a twist. But.... I don’t want to give too much away. It wasn’t a horrible read. And I was interested enough to find out what happened. And then get the next book since it’s free w KU. I’ll be honest tho, the start of the book took some getting into. It’s like she was trying to use a thesaurus in the beginning and it just was weird. Then she slowly gave up and wrote normally. It’s not going to be a re-read, but I wanted to finish the 1st time through.
So I was looking for something to read in young adult books and came across this series. The blurb sounded interesting and the book was at a great price so I bought. OMG! What a story! I could not put it down. Faye is a 17 year old who has learned not to take anyone's crap and is not afraid to defend herself or anyone she cares about. I love how strong and caring she is. Kyler is a guy who has been let down by many people in this life and is a tough nut to crack but Faye is able to see past his blank emotionless face. There are plenty of secrets that haven't been revealed yet from all the members in the Kennedy family but what a ride! The book ends in a cliffhanger and what an ending it was!
I got this book solely because it was written by Siobhan Davis. I adore her Saven and True Calling books and have read all of them so, while waiting for the next one to be published, I thought why not try these? Overall I'm glad I did. Finding Kyler was a soap opera on steroids, but you can pretty much predict that from the kindle blurb. What you can't predict (unless you're a Davis fangirl like me) is how well written it is, how well developed the lead and supporting characters would be or how real their relationship would come off as being despite the exaggerated context. That, frankly, is what makes this book so good and is why I rated it the way I did. I fully expect the same to be true of all of the books in The Kennedy Boys series. One major warning: there is a mind-blowing cliffhanger. I hate them. If you do to then here is a way to avoid its impact. At the end of the book when Faye and Kyler decide whether or not to go public with their feelings about each other (and, no, I won't tell you what they decide) stop as soon as you learn their decision. That way you can avoid the cliffhanger entirely. I wish I'd known that in advance. I'd still want the next book - but I'd hold off reading that last couple of pages until starting book 2.
I absolutely love Siobhan Davis' other book series, True Calling and Saven, so even though this series is a bit different from those series, I was excited to get my hands on Finding Kyler, and I enjoyed it! Siobhan Davis knows how to create an involving story, where once you start the book, you don't want to stop, and Finding Kyler definitely kept my interest.I also listened to the audio for this book, and I enjoyed the narrator's Irish accent. The female Irish accent did sound a bit weird on the boys, but overall, I enjoyed the listening experience. She did a nice job, and the quality is good.In Finding Kyler, Faye's parents have died, and since she is only 17, she needs to leave Ireland and go live with her mother's rich brother in America, and Faye is not happy about it, but she doesn't have a choice. When Faye arrives, she meets her 7 male cousins and her Uncle's wife, and the boys aren't exactly welcoming, but Faye has sass, so she isn't having it. Among the most rude of the cousins is Kyler, he definitely has a chip on his shoulder, but Faye feels a connection with him, but his coldness towards her, makes her determined to fight her draw to him, but despite her best intentions, she doesn't last long. Also, Faye has to deal with the rich snobs, mean girls who think they are god's gift, catty bitchiness, and the dysfunction of her new family. There's lots of drama to be had in Finding Kyler! Finding Kyler takes places in a Richie Rich world, and deals with the pretentious, so be prepared to dislike most of the characters. Luckily Faye is a good character since the whole book is in her perspective, Faye is tough and independent, and after the initial meeting of her character, I really liked her. Kyler runs hot and cold most of the time, so I'm not in love with him yet, and the rest of the cousins are obnoxious and immature, so there wasn't any book boyfriend material as of yet, but lots of room for these boys to grow. Now, the whole thing of Faye and Kyler being cousins didn't really bother me too much, I think I'm more forgiving when things are in books, then if it were in actual life, so I was cool with that, and Siobhan Davis doesn't just gloss over the issue, she faces it head on in the book. Now, there is a huge bombshell at the end of the book, so this is a cliffhanger ending, so I'm definitely anticipating the next book. I definitely feel like there's something else going on behind the scenes of Faye's family; especially past transgressions of members of Faye's family, so I'm excited to see where Siobhan takes this story, and I hope the next book doesn't make me wait too long before I get some answers!
Omg. That Ending. I have to admit, there were parts of this book which disturbed and grossed me out. However, as the book progressed, I started to see the characters differently.Finding Kyler was a book which surprised me due to its depth of the story and Faye's new life living with her Uncle and 7 cousins after the death of her parents. Furthermore, being uprooted from Ireland was something Faye never expected to do and went through great lengths to get used to her new life. I admired Faye's tenacity in staying true to herself and finding love in such a precarious situation. Will definitely be reading Book 2!
