This book is the second I’ve read about a Paleo diet, and I have to admit that “Paleo for Every Day†is better than the first book I read. I don’t believe it would be prudent for me to name the title of the other book, but if you look on the Amazon web page that lists all my reviews you’ll find out.The Paleo lifestyle or diet is based on what people consumed for sustenance during the Paleolithic era. This period in history marked the second part of the Stone Age, from roughly 750,000 - 500,000 years BC to 8500 years BC. All those years ago individuals found nourishment by means of harvesting, fishing, hunting, and foraging. Toiling was a way of life which gave them the exercise they needed to stay lean and healthy. Their diets consisted of pastured meats, viable seafood, verdant veggies, lush fruit, and rummaged nuts.“Paleo for Every Day†is a very comprehensive guide to this specific lifestyle and that impressed me. In addition to going over which foods are allowed or not allowed, it also includes information about beverages, herbs, natural sweeteners, and alcoholic beverages. The authors really break it down to make it as understandable as possible. There’s even a questions and answers section, which I found to be super helpful. Included is a 28 day meal plan for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, desserts, and snacks. If you’d like to adopt a healthier way a living I recommend checking out this book.
I love this book it's like a calendar book for eating healthy. It set ups and lets you know meals and how to prepare those meals starting with week one of using the book. It starts from day one. All I had to do was prepare a grocery list for the week's worth of groceries, and I went out and got them every Sunday. The recipes throughout this book are delicious I love the breakfast smoothie and all the salad recipes the most. With this book I've learned to create my own week by week Paleo diet or I just recreate the same recipes; but I make them my own by adding a little something extra like vegetables or a spice like sage. This is by far the best recipe book I've ever gotten. It's an everyday book and like I said it's like a recipe calendar what more can you ask for in a recipes book. I love it!
A solid, neatly organized and informative book on paleo-eating. The whole ideology is a little bit wonky, a lot of this food is just clean eating; better ingredients, more raw states, fresh produce. Most people in America eat surprisingly prepackaged and very little fresh produce . If you're good about balancing your food groups already (most non western diets) and want to take it to the next level or have developed certain allergies (gluten, celiac etc) by all means use this as a guide, particularly for the current ebook price, it's very valuable. I currently have no inclination to go paleo, as I enjoy my dairy and cheesecake, but if you embrace moderation and perhaps swap a portion of your weekly meals with recipes from here you can get much healthier in no time.
First, I think its important to give you my fitness background so you can see if this review is more relevant to you. I lost about 80 lbs through a combination of weight watchers and regular daily exercise. So, I'm not afraid of cooking my own meals and working out. While I was on my weight loss journey, I heard about the Paleo diet and it was touted as "a caveman diet" that was unrealistic and unhealthy. Well, after reading this book, it makes A LOT of good points that the person I talked to about it before obviously didn't know/think about.The line that really snagged my attention was (I'm paraphrasing here) ' The evolutionary process of our bodies hasn't had time to catch up to the way we are currently eating.', which basically means that our bodies literally are not capable of digesting all of the preservatives and processed junk that you find in foods nowadays. Think about it- 200 years ago, they weren't adding Red Dye #14 to their cookies or whatever to make them a fun Valentines color and they surely weren't adding chemical preservatives to make sure the food could last on a shelf for 10 years like you find in canned goods today.This book outlines pretty specifically what foods are "approved" for this type of diet and even explains what the "Paleo Purists" would and wouldn't do. Also, they give the reasons why this diet is believed to be so "healthful" for your body. They even explain what they have left out of the book as far as certain types of foods in the recipes they have in the back of the book. I was thinking that this book would be a general, glossed over version of how the paleo diet works and that I probably wouldn't get much information out of it. I WAS WRONG! I feel like even if I don't start the Paleo diet, I am at least pretty well informed of what it is and what the guidelines include.Like I said in the title of this review, it seems to be very cooking intensive, so if you hate cooking, don't know how (and don't want to try) then this diet and book aren't for you.HOWEVER if you don't mind cooking and are interested in a diet that will get your body back to the basics, then you should really spend the money for this book. At the very least, they have some pretty awesome sounding recipes that I skimmed through and they look fairly easy to make. I think I'm an 'advanced' level cook and most of these recipes look easy enough that even a beginner can handle them.Like I said, I don't know if I'm ready to commit to the Paleo diet, but I will CERTAINLY be trying a lot of the recipes in the back of the book!! I hope you find what you are looking for in this book, I did!I do need to note that I did not pay for this ebook and I did receive it for free.
