I carried this book on a recent, first-time visit to beautiful Quebec City. The old city (Vieux Quebec) within the ramparts is not very large and easily walkable so the book is handy. It is light and easily fits in a pocket. Good history bits and stories of the many sites (sights?). Small diagrams of the streets are included for each walking tour, but the book lacks an overall map of the old city. Without an overall orientation map it is difficult to know where in the city each tour is. To make up for this, I printed a Google map, worked out the area of each tour and marked it on my map. Also, the street diagrams are not consistently oriented north-south but appear to be oriented by how the diagram best fits on the page. Except for its map shortcomings the book had the right amount of information for my purposes as a casual tourist.
I was recently in Quebec City with my son's school tour and stayed an extra couple of days with my wife. I bought this as a kindle book to use as a guide and it was very good. Full disclosure, we did tours 1,2,3 and 7 over two days and then ran out of time. Also, we did tour 7 in reverse (it was simpler based on where we were staying) and split tour 1 over two days. Nonetheless, the book is very good to show points of interest and historical context. If you are interested in history and in taking the time to absorb the atmosphere, it is well worth it.
This is a ridiculous guide book. No color pictures, no good overall map of Old Quebec, the maps that are included are worthless without a large, detailed map to give you points of reference. Total waste of money- disgraceful.
Excellent book. Superior to the other tour book I bought. If you will be spending a lot of time in old Quebec this book is amazing. We spent a week and following many of these walking paths. It is VERY well written and clear on turns and where to look for interesting things. Highly recommend.
Just plain text, without any maps. Hard to use. Disappointed.
This travel guide has made me extremely excited to explore Old Quebec. I can't wait for my trip!
