I waited to do a review until I stitched a few of these patterns. I really like the patterns and the little blurbs about each woman. I also really like the phrase patterns in the back. I did notice a couple of mistakes in the patterns. I also did not like the skin colors they had for most of the women of color (Frida Khalo, Michelle Obama, and Beyoncé specifically). I simply went back to the craft store and found more suitable matches. This book has inspired me to make up my own patterns for more awesome women. I’m glad I purchased this book, it was a great way for me to get back into cross stitch.
Educational both about feminism, strong women, as well as the actual cross stitching! It's a really positive, fun book and I recommend it to everyone.
Really excited to try some patterns from this book! On first review, one downside is that some of the patterns don't show the grid clearly, so the counting may be pretty tough as the squares blend together more than they should. This is especially the case on darker colors (like the Beyoncé pattern where there is a lot of brown and black). Also, I'm very disappointed in the pattern for Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Doesn't look anything like her....the other patterns, however are pretty great. Also, I love that it has a bio of each woman featured.
Love the text and patterns in this book.Inspired by “make it bake it†holiday tradition I ordered the book in order to make the designs using perler beads.I had to work with the patterns a little bit to make them work with the perler beads, but it was an easy adaptation.I used mini beads and made bookmarks (Gloria Steinem, RBG, Simone de Beauvoir, Sally Friedan, Abigail Adams) and I used the regular beads to make a Frida Kahlo tray. I distributed the bookmarks with a copy of the icon’s story page to my nephews, niece and sister. I let them choose. The little nephew (7 years old) chose Gloria Steinem. My sister chose Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I learned so much about feminist icons from this fairly fun activity and it helped me spread the knowledge in an accessible way to another generation. Win!
As an experienced crosstitcher and feminist I am so excited to try these beautiful patterns.I especially can’t wait to stitch Frida, Rosie and Cleopatra!

Love the concept. Major complaint is how many different colors of embroidery floss they want you to buy. Ridic. You could probably substitute similar colors and get away with only buying 10% of the floss colors they suggest.
This book has really good, easy to follow patterns for beginner stitchers. I made an RBG cross stitch and I love it! However I'm not sure if everyone in this book is truly a "feminist icon" Beyonce, Queen Elizabeth, and Betty Friedan (who was all for feminism as long as women were still homemakers) don't strike me as overtly feminist. Icons yes, feminist, maybe?
