Review
"[Kirkwood] has... written a genuinely disturbing play: one not simply about nuclear power but about the heavy price we may pay in the future for the profligacy of the present. Whether you are a parent or not, the play leaves you an abundance of ideas on which to ruminate." - Guardian (Guardian)"All kinds of undercurrents swirl beneath the conversational ebbs and flows, by turns convivial and toxic... It displays a fine eye for niggling details as well as the broader picture. There's a rare warmth, too, evidenced by a glorious, tragicomic and nostalgic dance-along to James Brown." - Telegraph (Telegraph)

I am hearing impaired and when I saw this play on Broadway, the hearing device they gave me did not work. Since there was no intermission, I could not exchange the device and missed hearing the entire show! At least when I read the play, I could see the actors and the set in my mind's eye. It is a compelling drama about society's willingness to use nuclear power even though we have not solved the problem of safe waste disposal or the ability to deal with catastrophic accidents. There are only three characters, but the way their lives intertwine and the choices they have made collide with devastating consequences.
This is, one the best plays I've ever read. I saw it performed in NYC. A bit changed for the New York version to make it more American, but not much. It's beautifully done.
Husband wanted it for Valentine's day. He's happy
One of the best plays I read this year. Truly breathtaking writing and 3 amazing roles for 3 actors of retirement age. The play is going to Broadway in the 2017-2018 season and I predict it will be a strong contender for the Tony.
Comical, tragic and almost surreal, this play is engaging and horrifying all at the same time. Could be seen as a cautionary tale but its depiction of three people of retirement age living with the consequences of their careers is devastatingly honest and sad.
Why 4 stars? A simple but significant reason: Both the Kindle and the paperback versions of this play include a statement in the forward that because this version was created during rehearsals when changes were still being made, it may differ slightly from the play as performed. If that is the case, this play should NOT have been published. To pay money for something inaccurate or incomplete, under the circumstances, is simply wrong.
