This a contemporary translation of Imam Ash-Shafii's magnum opus, the "Risalah", which is very well done.I have, earlier, read Majid Khadduri's translation of the "Risala", as well, which is more of a classical version of it.Based on my experience, I think, for a layman like me, to get a good understanding of such a grand work of Islamic scholarship of the Classical Islamic period it would be more helpful to benefit from both translations, to get a more comprehensive understanding of the text.
This is the definitive edition and translation of this difficult by historically very important text. A tour de force, and particularly if you compare it to previous translations.
